Windows 7 does not like my HP Laserjet 1018 printer |
|
I upgraded one of my computers with new cpu and motherboard. So I figured, what the hell, I'll put 7 Ultimate 64 bit on it. Everything went fine until I connected the printer. Error message saying Windoze couldn't install the driver. So I went to HP's site, got the driver and tried to install it. Kept telling me to plug in the printer and turn on power. I even tried the ista driver-same message.
Got out my laptop with 7 Home Premium on it-same BS. Took my Samsung ML-2510 Printer, hooked it onto the 7 machine and we have liftoff. Put HP printer on computers with XP and XP X64, installed driver-works just fine on both of those.
Just another one of those little quirks in various OS's that you learn about. Like my Samsung CLP-510 color laser on Linux. The Samsung Linux driver won't let it print at full resolution and won't work with the duplexer. There is a Xerox printer(can't remember the model right now) that is basically the same printer and it's Linux printer lets you print with the Samsung at full resolution and duplex operation.

1. Have you tried using the Vista Drivers ? .In a few cases that I've encounted.... |
|
....(sometimes) the Vista drivers will work in 7.
One brought to mind is the Riveria Montago Sound card. (their site site didn't have drivers for 7 but Vista drivers worked fine)
Also a Epson printer had the same scenario.
I know from your posts ..hobbit709...that you know what you're doing (around computers) but just thought I'd throw this in. :) :)

Like I said, I just swapped printers between computers and no problem, Samsung works fine with 7, HP works fine on XP X64.

4. I've had enough annoying issues that when my XP box died |
|
(and I mean died as in smoke curling up out of the HD) and reinstalling the drivers from the recovery disc didn't work and I really didn't have time to futz around with it, I bought a refurbished XP box online to use until I get the old machine up and running, probably with Linux.
I remember similar problems when XP came out, waiting months for drivers to catch up to the new OS. I never did get one scanner to work.
