To Herrada, Sotomayor’s rise to the top is an American success story.
“The fact that she’s a woman will also change the paradigm,” she said. “And she also comes from poor people, from people of color.”
“She represents the indomitable spirit of the American people,” Herrada added. “It’s about time.”
Referring to the debate over Sotomayor’s ethnicity and her views, Herrada said:
“What’s considered to be objective is a white male who is wealthy,” she said. “But that is not the majority of this country. Sotomayor’s history is one that reflects the history of so many people who have sacrificed their lives to make this country what it is. She represents the American people in ways that we never had before.”
