1. Dont believe anything you read on Sludge Report |
|
I bet this is hardly correct, especially with Falafel O'Reilly claiming that Air America's numbers have tanked for like, the last YEAR.

numbers. The numbers that count are 25-54 - apparantly in NYC there's no accounting for taste.

7. That don't even make sense, N.Y. is liberal and I'm sure they would |
|

12. The problem is that it's nearly impossible for many of the suburbs |

to get any kind of good reception on WLIB. I struggle to hear it before 9 a.m. and after 4 p.m.

14. I agree and on Wednesdays now WBLI seems to be airing some kind |
|
of highschool sports event for 3 to four hours. I can't hear Randy Rhodes live anymore. She is on at 6 PM when the reception is horrendous for some reason.
Stephanie Miller is clear in the morning, she is followed by Al Franken, then Ed Schultz. That's the lineup with Randi following Ed but it's a repeat of her earlier broadcast. I don't know what's up with Wednesday and the kids sports events.
Lionel now replaces Mike Malloy and I never liked Lionel anyway so don't bother with it most of the time ~
I don't get why WBLI has such bad reception. Right now I'm listening to Randi, and about two other stations at the same time.
They changed the whole afternoon lineup when the replaced Randi with Ed ~ I remember that Randi was beating Rush in NY in her first year.

16. Really? They did that in NY too? |
|
Here in LA, we have the same schedule--Steph, Franken, Schultz, Randi, MR, then Marc Maron followed by Mallow at midnight. I can't believe they moved Randi to 6 PM in NY--that sounds crazy to me. Here in LA, the delay puts her at 3-6, which is drive-time and I think she's doing well (although Steph has the highest ratings on the station and second highest in the market). 6-9 in NYC is just crazy.
I think that's why she (and Malloy) have been doing CNN et al. The station must need the exposure, especially since the ~1 million viewers she gets on Dobbs is significantly more than her radio show is getting in her home city.

Edited to add: We don't get Stephanie Miller on the lineup in NYC.

I didn't think Schultz or Steph was on in NYC. I have heard that Clear Channel is starting another "progressive" station in NYC that will have more local programming than AAR does and it will have Schultz, so that probably means it'll have Steph too. There's a thread in GD: P about it from media week...but the thread is about AAR losing WLIB.

8. Guys, this is nothing to be concerned about... |
|
this reflects the same ratings for NATIONAL listenership for political talk radio. Rush, Hannity, etc. always have been at the top, although they've dipped a bit. In reality, Al Franken made his first appearance on this list in the Fall of 2005. I think that looking at this list alone is quite deceptive. AAR is growing, imho... as long as Clear Channel remains a reliable radio partner. And, believe it or not, they have so far.

13. It's because New Yorkers... |
|
...aren't drivers, so we don't listen to AM radio in our cars. We take the subway and listen to our iPods. We listen to AAR online or Podcasts! Radio ratings won't reflect that...

I listen to AAR most of the time on XM radio channel 167, although I do listen to 169 too, "The Power". It's an all African American station, and I do know, don't believe everything I read on drudge.

20. Well For One Thing, AM 770 Comes In Far Better Than 1190. |
|
At least in Morris County N.J.
Anything west of Parsippany you can still get 770 clearly but 1190 cuts out almost completely. That very well may be part of it. Can't have listeners if they can't hear the show right?

Air America radio will be going strong long after Rush is reduced to giving back-alley handjobs from his cardboard box in exchange for the occasional Oxycontin.
