What has Bush done right? |
|
Edited on Sat Jan-07-06 08:58 AM by Onlooker
The only things I can think of are
- He appointed two blacks to major positions. Powell may have been spineless and Rice may be from Mars, but it was good to have those positions filled by people of color.
- He won support for a lot of money to rebuild the areas damaged by Katrina. Most of the money will end up in the wrong places, but even Republicans will have difficulty stealing it all.
I can't think of any other significant Bush accomplishments. Though the economy is doing okay, I think it's mostly because of the housing market. Those who don't own homes are not enjoying the increased ability to borrow. And those who are borrowing will soon max out on that source of revenue.

3. For him self everything, for the rich old money families everything |

For the oil companies everything. For the rest of america nothing. He's sold america to the highest bidder, just like Nixon and Reagan.

5. I can think of nothing, literally nothing |

Bush will easily go down as the worst president ever. No contest. When future historians write about the decline and fall of the USA, they will point to Bush as "the beginning of the end".

6. I take exception with your examples... |
|
Please hear me out.
1) As a strong progressive/liberal I have come to understand that, as Martin Luther King Jr. so eloquently pointed out, it is not the color of one's skin but rather the character of the person that matters. This I believe absolutely. Thus, it doesn't matter that Powell and/or Ms. Rice are of African American descent... they are both people of dishonorable character. Bush having put blacks of poor character into these lofty positions just further points to his cynical world view. He knew full well that he would get credit (as you have amply given him) for elevating blacks to high station. However, he knew all along that their character matched his and that they would be willing hand servants to his diabolical plans. So... when all is said and done it means NOTHING that he put "blacks" into positions of power. He did NOTHING to elevate the African American race in this country. In fact, most African Americans in this country are ashamed of Colin Powell and Condoleeza Rice (and you cannot blame them).
2) "He won support for a lot of money to rebuild areas damaged by Katrina". You then go on to say that it will end up in the wrong places. Well, you're right. This fact alone attests to Bush's craven disregard for the real needs of disadvantaged people. I don't doubt that the man saw the Katrina disaster more as a potential "cash cow" than as an opportunity to help the suffering in his country. I'm sure he will be delighted with the additional revenues for whatever he desires.
All this says is that you must look to GWB's motives. As far as I'm concerned, everything he has done during his tenure in office (especially where it concerns the misfortunate and disadvantaged) has all been done with a cynical eye to what political advantage he might accrue from his "mock" deeds of "compassion and charity".
Thus, I am not convinced that GWB has done ANYTHING right or good during his misadministration... au contraire, mon frère... he has done nothing but HARM.

8. Whose definition are you using? |

If by "right", you mean: 1. Made the rich richer; 2. Put into practice Fascist policies; 3. Implemented the PNAC; 4. You get my drift.
