Public financing of campaigns...where do we start? |
|
Since we are going absolutely nowhere with getting a plan to help the people in health care and banking, and are, in fact, taking many steps backwards on war and, um banking...I conclude there is no other fight more worthy of our time than public financing of campaigns.
Any links on groups to join to help this cause?

There's no way this Congress will change the rules of the the game that got them elected.

4. I think public financing of campaigns is the single most important issue of our time |
|
From private financing stems all of our other problems war, global warming, banking bail outs, health care, media bias. You name it and there is a link to private financing

Would be the single best thing we could do for the country. Lobbyists would have to find a new way to bribe politicians. A universal draft would stop military adventuring.

7. It doesn't look like we could do a national referendum...perhaps only a non-binding resolution in |
|
states that allow it. Otherwise we will need and 300 million man march. The only other thing I can think of is a co-ordinated effort - to get people to stop withholding taxes for 3-6 months. Not saying never pay it...and could have serious implications...but how else can we get their attention.

It's public airwaves, after all. It should be free for a public purpose. Take that major cost out of campaigns first. Then publicly fund the rest of it. The networks' windfall needs to end. There's no excuse for it.
