1. If he had an ounce of self-respect, he would consider the loss of the award as a badge of honor.

3. Stupak didn't play this very well at all
I don't know if he got what he wanted out of Obama, but he's reviled by both sides now. Hopefully he'll lose in the primary.

4. All he got was a re-affirmation of a 30-year old amendment.
Woohoo! Good job!

19. No. Their definition begins and ends the very second after conception...
... so basically they only care about that infinitesimal window, probably a few seconds total, between the sperm's genetic load making through the egg's wall. Since these "pro-lifers" sure as fuck don't give a rat's ass about the fate of the baby, given they don't wan't to help chipping in to make sure every pregnancy has access to proper health care no matter what the particular economic situation may be.

There is nothing pro-life on their position, what it really should be their name if they had an ounce of integrity and honesty is that they are just "anti-choice."

They don't give a rat's ass about other people's lives, it is mighty entitled of them to take the term "life" as being theirs.

6. I still think Stupak should be primary challenged
He strikes me as a weasel who would turn on anyone if it worked to his political advantage.

7. So, being ignored by the likes of Bachmann,
Palin, Marilyn Musgrave and Virginia Foxx is a bad thing?

I'm no fan of Stupak, but that a compliment coming from that coven!

8. I'm going to donate a few bucks
to his re-election campaign. Not for his vote, but more for his speech he gave on the floor of the house when some ass wipe shouted 'baby killer. He said, something to the effect that we must care for those outside the womb as much as those unborn.

21. Stupak showed courage
Edited on Mon Mar-22-10 10:29 AM by harvey007
I agree.

I think Stupak's decision to support the bill, despite all the retribution he knew he was going to get from his pro-life peers, was very courageous.

He recognized that Republican attempts to kill the bill were all about politics, not about protecting life.

10. Stupak was part of Obama's game of chess
Like Halperin said over at ThePage/Time:

HALPERIN'S TAKE: The Dozen Reasons Obama/Pelosi Got Their Majority

No. 2. The White House carefully holding off on any whisper of an abortion compromise until it was too late in the game for pro-choice advocates to scuttle it -- even though the administration knew all along they had this card to play, and probably would need to play it.

http://thepage.time.com/halperin%E2%80%99s-take-the-dozen-reasons-obamapelosi-got-their-majority/

-------------------

I believe that the whole Stupak issue in the end was part of the strategy.
The timing of the compromise, the timing of the announcement.
The immediate prepared statement/speech given by Stupak as a response to the republicans motion...
ALL of it was too perfect to not have been planned out and Stupak must have been in on it all along ;)

Bravo to President Obama for another excellent game of chess!

15. CNN: Stupak's response
From CNN:

Updated: 11:28 p.m.: Rep. Stupak spoke with CNN Sunday night about the decision of the Susan B. Anthony List. "I didn't seek the award," Stupak told CNN, "I stood on my principle. I don't need an award."

16. Good reply
See, if it were me, and the award came with some sort of plaque or trophy, I would solder it onto a big gold chain and wear it on the house floor to piss them off.

But that's just me.

to do something like this. These people have no respect for anything-not even life.

20. Pro-lifers aren't.
They are only anti-choice.
Once there is a living, breathing person outside the womb, no more "pro" life.
Let that living, breathing person NOT have access to decent health care or any other sort of social safety net. Let that living, breathing person NOT have a decent education so that he can fulfill his potential and become a productive and participative citizen. Let that living, breathing person NOT have a decent retirement plan nor any hope of retirement without fear that his family may either have to abandon or take him in.
But LET that living, breathing person be sent to conduct wars on behalf of war-profiteers and kill as many as he can in their names. And LET that living, breathing person be put to death if a jury finds him guilty of a capital crime ... even if there is evidence to the contrary.
So I never use the term "pro-life" to describe them.
