1. Meg has enough money to make this "go away" |
|
Past due time for the "press conference" probably due to negotiations underway.
Allred can always smell the bucks and limelight and will be enticed to take a big payday for little work.

3. Whitman can only have lied. |
|
If a person claims to be a "lawful Permanent Resident Alien" then they have to show a green card. Why did Whitman not ask for that?

...if Meg was sending withholdings and her share of employer payments, some government agency would have contacted her far, far prior to the maid having been employed for 9 years. It might take six months, but nine years when there is a SS# that does not match up? Bullshit!

6. I hope Allred has the docs from SS admin showing she knew... |
|
(i.e., had been notified that her SS# did not match)... It seems the media is spinning the story in Whitmans' benefit..

7. Meg was told her houskeeper's SSN was bogus SIX YEARS before she fired her |
|
From the Sacramento Bee: Diaz today unveiled through celebrity attorney Gloria Allred that she had worked for Whitman's family for nine years illegally. Allred said in a press conference that Whitman never asked about Diaz' legal status and received notice from the Social Security Administration in 2003 that the social security number provided by Diaz did not match her name, calling that a "a clue that the employee may be undocumented."Read more: http://blogs.sacbee.com/capitolalertlatest/2010/09/whitman-campaign-releases-ex-h.html#ixzz10wpGV3Kn

11. Yes... that's what they maintain, but Allred was coy in terms of |
|
stating whether or not they had documentation from SS that Meg had been notified.

13. That was my take, too |
|
It would be sweet if Allred is holding a few things in reserve. But Whitman has already been damaged by these revelations, so it probably doesn't matter.
I haven't seen Whitman address this specific point, either. The media ought to have plenty of questions about it...

8. If this issue becomes a discussion over the worker, her possibly misleading documentation, |
|
is she lying, was she a good employee, Gloria Allred's history, how many dems have had nanny episodes, etc...then the bigger issue gets lost and even the smaller issue gets too gray. It becomes a victim of the same phenomenon that the torture issue involved....is waterboarding torture? Only four people tortured? Was it productive or not? Our own soldiers are trained in it? Etc. We are distracted from the real issue easily.
The real issue here is Meg's corporate, cold, sociopathic approach to her home management (regardless of ethnicity and documentation) and how that will translate to leadership of a state.

I know that it goes against her politics... but it may offend the crucial latino viewership.

12. A little early for it to be on the national media. By this evening |
|
it'll be there. Right now, it's a CA story. Tonight, it'll be national news.

15. Does this mean Whitman paid SS taxes for her housekeeper? |
|
I remember a lot of people with "nanny problems" were guilty of not paying them.
I'm actually not sure what California voters will think about this. Obviously it makes Whitman look like a hypocrite, but hiring people who might be undocumented, knowingly or not, is pretty common.
