Getting rid of KO has to be worst business decision since New Coke |
|
For you youngsters, Coke changed their formula in 1985...It went over so bad that New Coke was replaced by Coke Classic within months, perhaps sooner...
Well, getting rid of KO, the networks highest rated show host, makes about as much fucking sense as New Coke....So what, KO may have been a difficult person, Hollywood (and the sports world) are FILLED with difficult and overbearing people...They aren't fired...I'm sure there are people WAAAY more difficult to work with than KO...
Next MSNBC will probably get rid of all their hosts and just run "Lock-Up" 24/7...
On a side note, one of the hosts on the older "Lock-Uo" episodes was John Siegnthaler, who use to anchor the weekend NBC News as well.....Along with KO, John Siegthaler was another casualty of NBC/MSNBC....Siegnthaler was way better than Brian Williams....
"F" you NBC Universal Comcast or whatever the hell your name is...

5. I agree with you about Siegenthaler. |
|
I would have bet money he was going to succeed Brokow. Nope, he was exiled to MSNBC's "weekend of hell"

7. I remember when New Coke came out, |
|
and it was so bad I may as well have drinking sewer water! Ick!
Anyway, I remember Siegthaler and he looked a little stiff to me, but he did a pretty good job. Besides, I don't watch the nightly news unless I'm bored out of my damn mind, so I know how you feel.
Now, as for getting rid of Keith, I can only hope the powers that be will have "pleasant" dreams from here on out because the backlash from this is gonna haunt them and hit them where it hurts--IN THE WALLET!!!
I'm of the opinion that the so-called merger with Comcast is the main reason this happened. They probably figured that Keith wasn't gonna fit in their agenda so start phasing out the stars and replace them with nobodys and wannabees.
I'm gonna be moving to another state in a few months, and you can bet the fuckin' house that Comcast will NOT be moving with me! Since they're done with Keith, fair enough. I'm through with them too!!!
Rock on, Keith!!! Be like the Terminator and say, "I'll be back"!!!!!!!

8. The profit motive in American business is always paramount. |

Deliberately taking action that will result in reduced revenue makes no sense at all. These must be some nasty rightwing shitbags taking over who care nothing about the audience or on-air talent. All they are interested in is controlling the message.

9. I suspect that 'new coke' was never intended to be permanent. |
|
Edited on Sat Jan-22-11 07:59 PM by Edweird
I believe it was designed to make the switch from sugar to HFCS in 'coke classic' unnoticeable. Of course that's a harebrained theory, but if it is correct 'new coke' would actually be a 'success'.

....as opposed to him getting rid of them? I feel this was a lot more his decision than theirs.

12. Great analogy! I do remember the New Coke -- all the "boost" in the flavor was taken out |
|
&, ooh, the after-taste was awful.
Btw, it was Keith' integrity that made him "difficult" to those with less standards.

He was third place in his time slot after Fox and CNN.
We don't know what their plan is yet but they definitely weren't winning anything with Olbermann.

We will see the end of all of them, Maddow, Ed Show, Tweety, ect. It wouldn't surprise me if MSN tried to out fox, FOX.

|
Rachel and Ed are probably more at risk.
Especially Ed. You're not allowed to present leftist opinion emotionally because that tends to connect with the masses.
Right wing pundits all seem to present opinion emotionally without consequence because that tends to resonate with the masses.
All imo of course.

19. I used to think that profit was their only motivation |
|
but lately I believe they have a much much bigger goal and so much worse. The goal is to have total control over the information that the public receives which in the end will give them all the profit they could ever dream about. Control information, control the world and everything materially that exists. I think we are all screwed.

They're at about 97% of that goal now. We're totally screwed.
I hate the TV. I got rid of the last one I had a couple of years ago. It only wound up in my space after a roommate brought it home. I've gone for many years at a time with no TV. To me, it's a waste of time. I would say that probably 75% of my friends do not have a TV.
DU is actually becoming sort of an online TV guide. Probably a quarter of the posts here are about television shows. :boring:
