...different in American higher education in the past? I believe that the wealthy and privileged have always been able to buy their way through the system. They use their degrees as credentials, but their power and influence always comes from their having money and the wind of established order at their backs. I've worked in and around the boardrooms of corporate America for nearly 40 years and this atmosphere has always been there. It will remain this way until society recognizes and rewards the real contributors and true social justice demands that our economic system work toward that end.
