"Political suicide"? Only if the draft is actually enacted before the 2004 elections...after 2004 the Bushies will care even less what anyone thinks about their actions. But suppose a major terrorist event occurs anytime BEFORE the 2004 elections? Would it not be in keeping with the Junta to declare martial law and to cancel the elections?

The following two congressional bills are CURRENTLY in committee waiting for the green light to proceed to the voting process. Please note that these bills DO NOT allow deferments of any kind.

Additionally, please note that the last link is to the Selective Service System website...read carefully and you will find the authorization for $28 million to get the system ready for operation in mid-2005.

in the United States, including women, perform a period of military
service or a period of civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security, and for other purposes.

Georgia, Mr. Stark, and Mr. Abercrombie) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Armed Services
