He was probably hoping to be the big hero, bringing Bush into the fold on global warming ... just taking it for granted that Bush would be willing -- nay, eager! -- to reciprocate for all of Blair's support on the Iraq issue.

Bush must have been laughing with glee, as he watched Tony's face fall after being rebuffed!

I'd have thought that Blair would have smartened up and started distancing himself, since it was quite clear that Blair's risking his political future -- to say nothing of all those British soldiers maimed or killed -- would not result in Bush making the tiniest token gesture.
