Gulf shrimp was the best in the world until they were fed crude oil. Mississippi State developed a white shrimp that could survive in fresh water. They tasted pretty good but just didn't have the flavor of the Gulf. Then Vietnam invaded with its vastly cheaper shrimp and took over the market causing the small market segment in the us to crater. The shrimp VN bring in is raised in sewage ponds, literally. I won't touch shrimp or talapia now days.
