Like Barb, I've planted as many trees on my property as it can handle (sadly, the three hurricanes that hit my area in the past two months hugely deforested it (it's heartbreaking) but I blame those on global warming as well). I live alone in a small house. I'd love to have a child, but simply won't; six billion is more than enough. I'm baffled when people tell me I'm "selfish" for not having kids; I feel the opposite is true! I have a few friends who feel as I do; one couple, in fact, is highly successful (probably millionaires, but I don't ask), and they live in a tiny home with very few possessions. The wife was born in India,and has gone back to visit her relatives in their swiftly shrinking jungle many times. The consequences of overpopulation are horrifying to her, so she won't have kids. She also believes as I do-that humanity is too short sighted and greedy to survive more than another generation. Why bring a child into such a world? Our genes aren't that special, and there are millions of orphans throughout the planet already that need families. It just doesn't make sense.
