7. Emblematic of what we're dealing with here in the U.S.A.
Emblematic of what we're dealing with here, is, I believe, captured in this short email exchange I had this morning with an (un)concerned citizen.

"Is there more to life then a didgital camera and a giant t..v? I doubt it. George Bush and Cheyney represent the real America. They are us.Is that bad?I doubt it.Have enough money, you can have fun.Is there anything better then having fun?I doubt it.Iraq is a way for Americans to let off steam, like sports .Me ,I prefer golf. Now thats a real way of life.As for you, keep waving at windmills,it is silly but harmless."

I reply: If your missive isn't a quixotic attempt at humor (charging at the windmills of irony -- not to mention good grammar and syntax) -- your statement (as well as your pitiful life, as you inelegantly describe it) is simply another dim variation -- summed up -- succinctly by the expression "the banality of evil".
