"totalitarian dictator', does not appreciate the connection he has with the Cuban people. The US could have brought Cuba into close and friendly ties at almost any time in the past 50 years, but we were too stupid, too arrogant and too mean spirited. The US wanted things set up to benefit the wealthy and the privileged at the expense of the poor and the underprivileged - but then that is what the US does, it tries its best to grind the poor under foot. I hope that the Cubans can maintain their independence. It is terrible to have to live in the shadow of the beast...
