like in the USSR when the common soldiers refused to fire on mothers and grandmothers.

Once the officers saw that the enlisted men were refusing to comply with illegitimate/immoral orders, they would have to do the same. There's a lot more privates than generals. Likely the brass would stand down and have a civilian body actually remove the treasonous bastards, with the protection of the military, of course.

Or a more direct approach would be intel people just tidying up like they have done in other nations which were deemed worthy of regime change. After the Plame outing, there are probably plenty with cause to be a trifle annoyed.

My big hope in all this is that the briefcase carried around for the CIC is not actually filled with any codes for firing off anything more dangerous than a paint ball gun. One would hope for at least that ounce of protection for the world.
