A poor record on jobs

A recent letter writer praised President Bush's tax cuts for creating 1.4 million jobs in the last year.

It should be noted that in the 12 months before June 2000, Bill Clinton's last year in office, the economy created 3.3 million jobs. Overall, there were more than 22 million new jobs created in Bill Clinton's tenure, while the economy has lost more than 1 million jobs since George W. Bush took office.

While Clinton was in office, the unemployment rate fell from 7.3 percent to 4.2 percent. The unemployment rate has increased from 4.2 percent to 5.6 percent since George W. Bush took office.

Is America better off with more than a million fewer jobs and higher unemployment? I don't think so.
