12. Decline is inevitable
How soon and how fast are the issues. You are correct that the rest of the world will form alliances to counter our military threat. They will not sit by while the US throws its weight around on the world stage. Countervailing power always arises.

The biggest problem for the US is financial. We are rotting from within. The gap between the richest and poorest is expanding at an unprecedented pace. We are losing our advantages is all key industrial and technical areas. Our level of debt is exploding. The unfunded liabilities of both the public and private sectors is so huge that it will lead to disastrous consequences. Bush*, of course, is doing his Nero imitation and the sheeple applaud. This will not turn out well for the US, but the bottom won't fall out for at least 5 years.
