13. "By evening, as Air Force One lifted off, ..... --
Michael in NY at Americablog (as is often the case) noted this interesting item in Mr Shane's article on Sunday:

One day after Joe Wilson's public comments, Bush admitted he couldn't back up what he said. They've tried to prevaricate and lie and whitewash this admission. They've smeared Joe Wilson and attacked his wife and endangered his children and weakened national security all in an attempt to discredit it. But the White House never has and never will take back that retraction. They can't.

<clip> The president's aides, including Ari Fleischer, his press secretary, and National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, would attempt to blunt Mr. Wilson's claims in on-the-record briefings, before Air Force Once took off for Senegal and then for the correspondents following the president as he traveled around Africa.

Meanwhile, those left in charge at the White House, including Karl Rove, the president's political guru, and I. Lewis Libby Jr., chief of staff to Mr. Cheney, would spend part of the week trying to defuse the controversy over the State of the Union address.

The White House response began at 9:30 a.m. on July 7, a Monday, as Mr. Fleischer briefed the press at the White House. "There is zero, nada, nothing new here," he said of Mr. Wilson's claims. But under questioning, Mr. Fleischer's account became murkier. He seemed to concede, before backing away, that Mr. Bush's entire statement about Saddam Hussein's search for uranium in Africa might have been flawed.

By evening, as Air Force One lifted off, officials on the plane were calling The Times and The Washington Post to make it clear that they no longer stood behind Mr. Bush's statement about the uranium - the first such official concession on the sensitive issue of the intelligence that led to the war.

They knew it was all a lie as they presented to the UN and the Congress.

They knew it was all a lie long before the State of the Union address.

They knew it was all a lie when they launched their overt war of aggression.

They knew it was all a lie when they intentionally outed Ms Plame and began their withering attack on Ambassador Wilson.

They know today it was all a lie and they continue their illegal occupation of Iraq and their incessant efforts to smear Ambassador and Mrs Wilson and all the patriots, like Larry Johnson, who have tried to save the Republic by alerting their fellow citizens that it was all a pack of lies.

My fellow Americans, Bush, Cheney and all their neoconster war criminal buddies are a pack of evil liars, traitors, torturers and murderers. That is not a difficult sentence to comprehend, is it.

Peace.
