A couple walked across the bridge

to Algiers Wednesday evening, took a shower, got in a second couple's car and drove to Baton Rouge, seeing almost no one else on the road, getting here yesterday afternoon.

Both couples were stranded at the Fairmont hotel. My brother, who will be living with me for awhile, was able to call them Wednesday and told them to leave the hotel, cross the bridge with the other couple, and drive to my house. I was out of town yesterday so I only talked to them on the phone. They found out where his mother was, went to her place not far from here, and are flying to Oregon next week.

My point is: if they were able to do this with no trouble whatsoever, why are relief vehicles kept away? There is an easy route available.

I am angry, very angry, but also baffled. What the hell is going on? Strauss, PNAC, neo-con, whatever -- how can they do this? Even a damned failed corporate lawyer appointed to FEMA for political reasons (remember Joe Albaugh?) can do better than this.

I also received a call saying that a very prominent NO resident has hired mercenaries to helicopter in and guard his mansion. I won't name him because the story cannot be verified right now, but my source was very reliable.
