Just talked to my brother at New Orleans Airport

He's the "maintenance guy" for a fleet of luxury motor homes leased to various government agencies involved in disaster coordination.

"You know what's coming?"

"Well, they told us it might rain quite a bit."

"New Orleans was evacuated yesterday. Why are you still there?"

"Well, the airport is on high ground, and the evacuation didn't include us."

"Are you aware that this storm has the potential to exceed Katrina?"

"No... It's supposed to hit in Texas, isn't it?"

"Maybe, maybe not. Right now, it's heading for Houston, but it could turn at any moment."

"We're ready to leave if it gets bad."

"I'll call you back tomorrow."

He's in the bullseye and they're bullshitting him. He has no radio or TV signal. I'm amazed his cell phone works. And the Feds are downplaying Rita.

We are so fucked if this is the caliber of professional running the day-to-day operations of this country.
