impeached and, most likely, convicted and imprisoned. It was the end of the line. The nation was tired of the scandal and in shock after the resignation.

I was in 4th grade. My parents, uncles and aunt and grandparents did not speak about the crisis. I asked mom about it and she said "You wouldn't understand." I thought "bullshit, yes I would." My mom NEVER talks about politics. I think she votes Republican but who knows. We all sat in front of the TV that night and watched the speech. No one said a word.

The next day, Nixon boarded the helicopter and he was gone. Ford became President.
