The chimp is just their puppet and to make him the target is to miss the greater threats. They ran him cuz he can go out and act like 'one o' the boys' when the real powers have to remain mostly faceless (or at least pretty obscure) owing to the fact that no one would actually vote for them and they couldn't even mount a credible sham election with their machines.

Now the chimp's job is to take the flack so the shadow government can still operate. They are crooks at best. They need cover and we need to keep turning the lights on and uncovering their activities.

Sure, oust the chimp, but remember that he is not the prize nor the power. Don't keep the focus on him at the expense of not exposing the actual puppetmasters.
