8. first day of kindergarten is a hard day.
i remember! funny, my son had always been in daycare, so i was surprised by the tears as he got on the bus. starting school is the first step on the path of their own lives...

this is silly--on my (now a teen) son's first day of school, i did the best "traditional mom" stuff i could. i told my boss i would be coming in late, got up really early and cooked a huge breakfast of bacon and eggs, and orange juice, and milk. (generally, he just had a bowl of cereal!) well, we were up so early, that after eating, we sat around and i drank my coffee, and he drank OJ, and i took some pix, etc.

then: "finish your juice! we have to go to the bus stop!" he downed it, and off we went. about 3 minutes after watching him get on the bus, and sobbing my way home, i realized that he had an awful lot of liquids in the course of the morning. his bladder was not the strongest at the time, and he's shy (was then, still is) and i worried that he wouldn't ask if he needed to visit the little boys room...

so! i jumped in my car, beat the bus to the school, and grabbed his hand shortly after he got off and took him to the bathroom. tee hee. i'm a silly mommy, i know--but i didn't want him to be "the kid who pissed himself on the first day of kindergarten" for all of his time in school.

good luck tomorrow, MrsGrumpy! i hope your little angel has a great day, and that you get thru it with only a few sighs and tears. (go easy on the a.m. beverages ;-) )
