are words you never want to hear from a techie....

Anyway, I might be able to help but its not going to be very easy. Find out the following information from her and get back to us.

1) What version of the operating system
2) Did she create a user account or was she using the Administrator acct.
3) Are the security patches up to date.
4) Is there a functioning network installed and hopefully another PC on the local network.

If that all is a bust... About your only hope is going to be to use one of the tools show below to reset the password, "crack" the password file, or use one of the many known exploits that should have already been patched to gain access. As a last resort you will need to re-install the os from the distribution CD and be sure to "NOT" reformat the disk. It will unregister any added programs and settings but all her "data files" will remain.
