15. The Smoker an exercise in contradictions.......

It's sponsored by the Holy Name Society at the Catholic Church in the neighborhood I grew up in. I have a friend who lives a block away, so we meet at his house and get loosened up.

We then walk over to our old Grade School, pay $15 to get in to the gym. It's all the beer you can drink, all the delicious homemade Polish food you can eat. There are about 25 tables set up, each with a deck of cards. Then you play Poker....and smoke. And play Poker, and eat, and drink and smoke. Then at about 10 o'clock, about 20 pizzas are delivered. You take a break, eat some pizza and play Poker, drink some more and smoke. It breaks up around midnight. It's great.

We just play with quarters, though some pots got to be as large as about $10.

There you have it. Gambling, drinking and smoking at the same Catholic school gymnasium that we grew up in.

I'd like to see the Southern Baptists top that.
