33. Birds and Song
It seems that young birds raised in isolation can learn a song
that is not part of their repertoire, but once spring arrives,
they instinctively switch to their mating song, even though
they have never heard it before.

The scientists found that young male canaries raised in the
lab had no trouble learning a computer-generated song
that had no resemblance to the song their father would
normally teach them. However, when the young birds were
on the brink of adulthood, they were chirping the song they
were destined to sing---even though they had never heard
it before.

How the birds, who lived in isolation, converged on the
normal canary song at the start of the breeding season is
not known (at least to scientists).

Remember that commercial many years ago about some
brand of margarine that said something at the end with
all kinds of lightening and thunder and rain and it ended
with these words: "It's not nice to fool Mother Nature".

In dealing with animals for years and years, we have
found that the instinctive force of Mother Nature
is stronger than any scientific study that is forced upon
any animal other than man. Didn't the Tsunami of 2004
prove that? Wonder if these scientists now know that?
Wonder what the real relevance of this study was about?
Especially with all the animals living in shelters today!
Could this money have been spent in a better way!?

Food for thought today.

Yours for excellent pet health and common sense
