A little message about DU for our fuckface lurker pals

When I was a kid, I used to have two great shepherd-collie mixes named King and Shannon. Those were great dogs; big, lovable and very protective of me and mine. They were brothers, their mom was Tasha, my cousin's lovely dog and a great member of their family.

Anyway, one day I was playing with King and Shannon in my Aunt's fenced-in backyard on a nice August day. We were having a good time, running around, jumping on each other and just doing some run-of-the-mill rough housing. Shannon and King loved to play rough, in a controlled sort of way, so it was cool.

All the sudden, the dogs stopped playing and ran over to the front gate and started barking at five or six boys who were standing on the other side of the fence.

I said, "Yeah, what do you want?" The first one replied smirkingly, "Come on out, we want to beat you up." Turns out that the local roughs in my Aunt's neighbor recognized me as fresh meat that needed to be jumped into their pissant little gang. Frankly, I didn't want anything to do with these guys, so while I was standing behind my barking dogs, I smiled and said to them, "No, I'm not coming out. Why don't you come back here and get me?"

Well, you should have seen the smirk drain from his face. King and Shannon barking away, a chain link fence separating them from some rough doggie love and me, arms folded behind them as they made their point.

Suffice it say, the boys declined my invitation and with a half-hearted "Nahh" and walked away. After which, the dogs and I resumed with our games.

I look back on that day and draw some analogies to today: Democratic Underground is like my Aunt's Backyard. It's where we play. Sometimes we play a little rough, but that's okay. Like Shannon and King we know the rules and we learn to live with them. The neighborhood toughs are like our lurker troll pals. They come to OUR TURF and try to have their way but, like Shannon and King, we'll have no part of their little gang. Our backyard, our rules. That's the way it ought to be.

Frankly, I feel that the alert button is one of the best features on this site, if it is used sparingly and wisely. I myself only save its use for outright freeptard trolls and their pissant little cuzzins, who find their way into our backyard and try to disrupt the peace and spread their idiotic nonsense all willy-nilly like. I have never alerted on another DUer merely because they were engaged in a heated discussion, expressing an honest difference of opinion. There is a point of no-return, however, and defending the illegal and immoral actions and policies of an outlaw administration doesn't play here at all. Especially, if the criminal "masterminds" behind those policies are cited as justification.

Somehow, our lurker pals do not get this simple premise. So, I've got news for them: it's in OUR rules. If they want to play in OUR backyard, they follow our rules. Read the fucking RULES.

The rules are there for a reason. But just like their fearless leader, the freeptards think that they're above the rules.

That's just plain wrong.

We DUers pride ourselves in keeping DU just for us and we defend it thusly.

So in conclusion, I'd like to point out that if those boys had took me up on my offer to come into my Aunt's backyard that day, so long ago, King and Shannon would have had their silly asses for lunch. Today, we here in DU invite all to stand with us, but to do so on our terms. If they don't, like a couple of protective shepherd-collie mixes, we reserve the right to jump all up in their asses, nine ways 'til Sunday.

Just as God intended.
