46. The moderate Republican.
As long as he had some kind of brain and was committed to using it, even if he didn't come to the same conclusions I did. I couldn't date one of these knee-jerk fundie types who's idea of logic means covering their ears and singing "LALALALA" really loudly when someone says something that contradicts what they already think. But then again, I guess one of them wouldn't be moderate.

Now, on the other hand, I did actually date a proselytizing PETA-vegan type once. He was the worst boyfriend I ever had. Totally obnoxious, fanatical, frothing at the mouth. Saw nothing wrong with criticizing every food choice I made but had hysterical fits if anyone dared question his viewpoints. And he ate the most appalling crap - it seemed mostly to consist of ground up twigs and leaves mixed with soy milk in a porridge form. He was always complaining about having such low body fat that he couldn't stay warm (imagine that! :eyes: ). We ate out a lot because I just couldn't stomach his normal, everyday food choices.

I realized that I had to dump him after I found myself literally contemplating murder over dinner one night (he was harrassing me about my diet for the 80,000 time).

Even talking about this guy now makes me irritable. Dating him turned me off vegetarianism permanently. Seriously. Even now when people I meet tell me they are vegans I kind of cringe inside, waiting for the inevitable lecture delivered in a morally superior tone.

I think the moral of this story is: if you are a fanatic of any sort, you might want to carefully think about how you are coming across. You may actually turn people away from your cause if you try to make them feel shitty about themselves, or act like a crazy person.
