25. cleaning has nothing to do w/ security deposit.
I have always left apartments cleaner than when they were when I moved in, but clean is not what the security deposit is supposed to be for.

A security deposit is to pay for DAMAGE done to an apartment... holes in the walls, tears in the rugs, plumbing issues, broken baseboard heaters, doors that don't shut or lock, broken windows, etc. And this applies only to damage that is beyond the normal wear and tear.

About the only time "clean" comes into play is when an apartment has been infested with fleas. If you have to pay to have it fumigated, then that charge can be deducted from the deposit.
