other people say about your hair? Or anything else? If they are shallow and stupid enough to think commenting on your hair is valid conversation, then they're really not worth your time.

I used to be incredibly sensitive to what others thought until I realized that most people do struggle with self-image and often use cruelty or snarkiness to cover it. If someone say something, just say "yeah, I think it's too short, too". Where do they go with that? You neutralize the comment, and move on.

And I think your counselor is right - the more you go out, the less sensitive you'll become to inane, insipid remarks.
