Bizarre employment situation
Advertisements [?]
I work on a government contract. Last week I received a layoff letter telling me that without funding I would be laid off after February 2, when the old contract expires. However I was verbally assured that the paperwork for a new contract paying me should come through in time so that I would not be laid off.

In the meantime, Congress passes the spending bill.

I was further assured yesterday by the PM that the paperwork for the contract was being processed. However, with nothing concrete in the works, I felt obligated to tell my clients about this (they had no idea!). Our lan engineer, who has been with the company 11 years, resigned, an irretrievable loss.

So now it is Friday noon and Monday is my last day (I guess, at least for a while). I got some boxes yesterday so I could pack up my office. They haven't issued me a parking pass for February (yet).

Not only this, half the company is in the same boat.

Thanks to all the Congress and the White House for assuring this uncertainty.
