100. Michael Stipe idolized Patti Smith

a lot of guys were gaga for Bjork, and for various women in all female bands... including the Runaways, The Go-Gos, Joan Jett in various bands, Luscious Jackson, Scrawl, L-7. the Donnas and Kitty.... even Heart and The Bangles...

of course, many of those bands were not what you would call mainstream.
