3. I was impressed too ...

I expected to start having to give clues, but all of them were answered in an hour.

The key was treating the questions as riddles with clues to the answer in the question. With the first one, for example, the first words of the first two sentences "Georgia" and "Scenes" placed into Google brings up Augustus Longstreet as the first link. There are other combinations that do the same, but that's the most direct.

With the second question, the words to the name of DuBois's most famous book _The Souls of Black Folk_ are in the riddle, in order, and are closely followed by a sentences with the words National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), which he was part of starting.

Etc.

Still ... I thought it was very cool people figured that out so quickly.
