5. I got married and divorced pretty young -- from a high extreme to a LOW LOW LOW one.
.
.
.
It didn't sour me on marriage, but it never really came up again.
.
.
.
There IS "one who got away" around the late 80's/early 90's...
but that was my "blindness 'til it was too late" that stopped that.
.
.
.
When I was married and it was GOOD... nothing in my life ever
better (making music with the band came pretty damn close).
But I've been IMMENSELY happy through most of my life.
.
.
.
I DO get a little wistful sometimes when I see an older couple
just holding hands -- knowing I'll never experience the quiet
joy of having grown old with someone -- having shared much
or most of a life together through happiness and trials.
.
.
.
Then again:
.
I like to sleep until the crack of noon
midnight howlin' at the moon
goin' out when I wanto, comin' home when I please
I don't have to ask permission
if I want to go out fishing
and I never have to ask for the keys
(Tom Waits -- "Better Off Without a Wife")

.
.
.
Of course, there are OTHER perks with the single life.
