20. A balloon hem --

I have a cocktail dress from the late 50's that has what was called a balloon hell -- it is essentially the same type of thing. The old way of doing it was to have the dress hem sewn onto another piece of fabric thatisi then pulled up under the dress and attached (usually to the waistband) creating an edgless hem. I have recently noticed a return to that old trend.

On edit: they are now calling them "bubble" dresses:
