Shock and awe? Abbas warned the US about the elections and Hamas and kept stalling the elections. Also the polling coming up to the election was showing the race was extremely close and could go either way.

This opinion piece seems to be one of those blame everything on America pieces. America caused the Palestinian split? Were the Palestinians ever (if at all)that unified to begin with? I think they were throwing each other off roofs with too much zeal if they were only acting as pawns of the satan US.
