The Engine and the Crater-- What Happened to Flight 93? [View All]

According to this map from the Popular Mechanics article, UA93 came from the north.

I notice even in this map, from an article that is supposed to debunk 9/11 conspiracies, even they have the engine over one thousand feet from the crater. The engine piece was quite large and weighed over one thousand pounds. It was found almost due south of the crash site.

What kind of normal plane crash would send a huge piece of engine flying that far? It seems to me, either the engine was coming off before the plane crashed and kept going in the air after the plane went down (perhaps the engine was shot by a missile as many have suggested), or the plane had explosives on board that went off when the plane crashed thus sending the engine flying. Extra explosives might explain how even the rest of the plane, including the tail section, completely disintegrated.

Now look at a picture of the crash crater:


To orient you, this picture is looking from the north, and thus the wing marks are going northeast and southwest-- they actually line up pretty well if the plane was coming from the northwest and going southeast (the official story). However, the pushed up and scraped area off the middle of the crater is actually pointing south. Does this like a normal plane crash site? Apparently the largest piece of plane that was recovered was the size of a hood of a car (according to Jere Longman's book on flight 93). How believable is it that a normal Beoing 757 plunging into soft ground* (suposedly at a 45 degree angle) would explode so dramatically and essentially rip the plane into thousands of tiny pieces? Granted the fuel on board would explode, but it seems unlikely it would explode so violently as to cause the plane to completely disintegrate and send a one thousand pound piece of engine flying a quarter of a mile. What caused the complete disintegration of flight 93 after it impacted the ground and what caused to engine to go flying so far from the crash site?

*Supposedly some of the fuselage burrowed deep into the ground, but it is not clear how much. According to Longman, the front quarter of the plane broke off and disintegrated and much of the rest of the fuselage went into the hole. No one has explained what happened to the tail, which is huge, and normally survives crashes fairly intact. It is very hard to imagine that the tail went into the hole.
