First off there is no "CIA". That is if you are talking about a monolithic organization.

Within that agency, like other intelligence communities around the world, there are many different political views. Not all agree.

Second, if "The CIA" could not keep quiet such "simple" operations as lifting a Russian sub from the ocean floor or opening the mail of American citizens sending and receiving mail from foreign lands (1950's, see Church Committee Report), what make you think "The CIA" could keep quiet, after all these years, something considerably more complex and earthshaking as the assassination of a US President?

As for the "Mob" not having the ability to pull off the cover-up, as a poster above me indicated, who says they would have to have the pull in the first place? Remember the times in which the event took place. LBJ got Earl Warren to take the job as head of the "official investigation" by telling him; "We have to find out if it was the Russians. Nuclear War is just 30 minutes away."

Plant a pasty with "commie" ties and let the Cold War do the rest.

By the way; It WAS a conspiracy. That is after all the official US Government view of the event ala the 1978 House Committee Report.

My Views on the subject;

1) Oswald was a patsy.

2) "The Mob", more specifically, Carlos Marcelleo (SP? - New Orleans Godfather and heavy into the anti-Castro movement) was the likely culprit.

3) As finally, Spector's "Magic Bullet Theory" ranks up there with Atlantis, El Dablo, and WMD and other "Myths of History".
