12. Having just moved from the deep woods
I can attest to the high divorce rate, intimidation of females, physical and mental abuse inside mariage, rampant drug use, high unemployment and underemployment. The preachers at the local churches don't help with their "women must be submissive to their husbands" spew. I had a local handyman who was honest and hard working, but when I asked him something about his wife he said she "would do what she's told" in all matters. It's a different world in many rural areas, almost 100 years back in time in attitude and outlook. I loved the beauty of the natural suroundings there, but I'm damn glad to get back to civilization again.
