Chairman Dean on Politically Direct

I know it's so much more fun to bash Dean for what he said about Republicans or to bash Edwards and Biden for what they said about Dean but, in case anyone's interested, I happened to hear Chairman Dean in a short interview on Politically Direct on AAR this afternoon.

Nice little interview. He spoke about election reform and what we can specifically do to ensure that all machines have paper trails in states where Democrats have enough power. He said it's a lot tougher in states like Ohio where there are hostile Secs of State. I really liked what he had to say on this. Seems an issue they will concentrate on. He also stressed that this is NOT a partisan issue. How can election reform, an attempt to make sure everyone gets a fair chance to vote, be a partisan issue, or a bad thing? So true, so true. Nice to hear him say it.

He was asked about the memo and what he said might not make people too happy but I think I agree with him. He said that it was one more proof that Bush lied (not sure he used the word lied but it basically was what he was saying) to get us into the war with Iraq but that people knew Bush wasn't on the level and they still voted for him so we had to do more than just get involved in a mudslinging match. I know people want Dem leadership to take this issue and run hard with it but I thought what Dean said made a lot of sense.

He discussed media reform and said that the DNC will hold a meeting or maybe two a year outside of Washignton DC. That sounded good to me also.

Oh, and they didn't mention the Republican remark once.

(BTW, my take on the whole Dean/Edwards/Biden thing is that I don't think everyone has to agree with everything the Chairman says but would it kill these people to at least give the impression that they support and stand behind the Chairman of our party?? If they didn't know the exact quote or the context or Dean's clarification of the remark, why just accept the media's interpretation and try to run as fast and as far from Dean's remarks as they could? They are experienced enough to know how to handle the media with a situation like that where the media is obviously trying to sow some division...or at least they should be. As for Dean, it's inevitable that he's going to stick his foot in his mouth every once in a while with his off the cuff, take no prisoners speaking style...but, boy, is it nice to see someone with some balls out there representing us for a change, someone who won't back down when challenged! :)
