In MO we are still waiting for our best bet Clair McCaskill to announce she will run. Jim Talent (R) is up and he can be beat.

On the road to give an out-of-town speech Thursday, Claire McCaskill offered a tantalizing hint about her 2006 political plans.

Yes, the Missouri auditor disclosed, she’s leaning toward running for the U.S. Senate next year against Republican incumbent Jim Talent.

But, she quickly added, “talk to me this afternoon.” By then, McCaskill said, the answer might be entirely different.

Raising the millions of dollars needed for a candidate not as well-known as McCaskill would be tough. That’s one more reason why close observers of Missouri politics think she’ll take on Talent.
