Right now, some 66% of the petroleum we use in the United States comes from foreign sources. If we could get ANWAR oil production to maximum capacity tomorrow, that figure would drop to about 62%, not enough to substantially change the price at the gas pump. In reality, it will take 10 to 15 years for production to ramp up; during that time, the increase in price will more than outweigh any future increase in supply.
