He'll tell it like it is, then hold a press conference and say how grateful hs is finally to have had a chance to be heard. Then resign his commission.

The point of the resignation would be to avoid letting himself be used for political purposes. "If you would not listen to me for all this time, I am not going to let you use me to save your own skin"

We all know damned good and well he does not need the retirement benefits - he can make a fortune on the lecture circuit, as a commentator, and/or sign on with Wes Clark or others to help drive toward fixing the problem. Particularly if he does the above.

It must be painful to be on active duty and sworn to follow the Commander-in-Chief, with all the fealty that is rightfully built in to the military chain of command. The number of retired officers who've spoken out keeps growing; having someone high up quit so he can speak freely would be the coup de grace.
