35. Believe me, this Iowan understands...
Edited on Sun Oct-28-07 07:08 PM by TwoSparkles
I take the caucuses very seriously. I understand very well that Hillary
has gone to the dark side. I don't care how the paid-blogger-marketeers
spin it.

She made Saddam/Al Qaida connections in her Senate-floor speech in the
run-up to the Iraq war. She also spoke of the same mushroom clouds that
Condi touted. Hillary knew DAMN WELL that the Iraq war was a lie steamrolled
by the neocons--the same group of thugs who ASKED HER HUSBAND TO GO TO WAR WITH
IRAQ! Hillary knew, better than anyone--that 9/11 and Saddams' WMD were
bogus.

...and STILL she refuses to denounce her vote. And now she echoes Bush's
talking points on Iran, declaring that "War with Iran is not off the table".
If that's not enough, she recently voted in favor of declaring Iran's military
a "terrorist organization". In effect, that allows Bush to do whatever the hell he
wants to Iran and its people. He no longer needs to ask Congressional approval for
war, because of their "terrorist" status.

Does Hillary think that we're not paying attention?

This Iowan is.

Hillary is panicking, because the Iowa caucuses cannot be STOLEN. They are
won by having loyal, fierce, passionate supporters who are willing to go to the
mat for their candidate.

At the Iowa caucuses, registered voters meet in school libraries, community
centers, living rooms and gymnasiums. We divide into candidate groups and
we argue, defend, and beg. We try to pull people over to our candidate and
we do it with tons of emotion and loads of truth and information.

Guess what? I think Hillary's scared. Her support is based on two things: Her
name recognition and the perception that she's leading in the polls. That's
soft support. It's not going to generate a ton of people "going to the mat" for
her.

However, the Edwards and Obama supporters will speak passionately. They'll lobby
for their candidate, because their support is based on MORE than how well their
candidate is doing in the polls--or what they believe the Jonses are doing.

Just look at the pro-Mrs-Clinton posts at DU. It's never about her views or
the wonderful way in which she's saving our democracy or our Constitution. It's
always, "Yippeee! She's leading in another poll!"

Furthermore, does anyone actually believe that the Kucinich, Richardson, Biden,
Dodd and Gravel supporters would actually go to Hillary??? In the Iowa caucuses
you must have 7 supporters per candidate to be "viable" (7 supporting voters = 1 vote). If
your candidate is not viable, you have a choice. You can stand alone and your
vote does not count, or you can join another candidate group and count. I've
seen this process in action and 99 percent join another group. The Biden/Dodd/Gravel/etc
supporters, who are overwhelmingly progressive, will probably go to Obama and Edwards.

Hillary isn't spending money and scrambling for a widened Iowa presence because she's
"secure". She's going it because she knows that the Iowa caucuses are about democracy
in action and people who are passionate for their candidates.

The most passionate Hillary supporter that I've heard to date--is none other than
Newt Gingrich as he espoused deep admiration and adoration for her on "Meet The Press".
