McCain's folks have a tough choice to make on running mate given how fractured the party is. Can't pick a moderate without alienating the social conservatives. Can't pick a social conservative without alienating the moderates. They can't win without both so they are kind of screwed either way. My guess is they'll go with someone as much as possible who is in between and has some credibility with both groups, but those are hard to come by.
