10 Amazing Days for Obama (3/29/2007)

10 Days ago Obama and his preacher was front page news. The polls were showing Hillary pulling ahead. The Clinton camp and their supporters were honestly thinking this was the end of Obama. Blog posts said he might not recover. Pro-Hillary web sites were saying “He Is Done”.

Then he delivered what is being called “The Speech”. A brave and risky address to the nation about race. He could have easily just talked about how his preacher was wrong and that being part of the church was a mistake. 99% of the politicians would have done exactly that. But Obama wanted to do more than address his preacher’s comments. He wanted to make a difference in America. And he did. I guarantee you that if “The Speech” would have hurt Obama in the polls and cost him votes he still would have been glad he made it. Because he knew it needed to be said.

Since 10 days ago when Obama was “done” the following has happened:

• The speech was viewed as positive and a success by most Americans.

• He was endorsed by Richardson, a major endorsement because Richardson knew the Clintons as well than anyone.

• He pulled ahead of Clinton in most major national polls. Including the Gallup Daily Track Poll where he now has an 8 point lead, the largest since the poll was initiated. The current Pennsylvania poll has him within 10 points of Clinton with three weeks left before the Pennsylvania vote. Two weeks before Texas he was down 15 points and got within 5 points. Two weeks before Ohio he was down 20 points and pulled within 9 points. There is a lot of time left to catch Clinton in Pennsylvania.

• The calls for Clinton to quit the race have increased from all sectors.

• He received an endorsement from Pennsylvania Senator Bob Casey.

• Hillary was caught up in her own Bosnia sniper fire story. A story that she has told three times in the last 6 months. The story was finally addressed by CBS news.

• The Michigan and Florida re-votes appear to be done.

• Hillary’s negative poll numbers went up, higher than any time in the past.

And Hillary has to be at wits end. Hillary knows she cannot win this thing without another major issue with Obama. She is desperate and holding on, hoping for a Hail Mary pass that will never happen.

The sad part is that Hillary has dented her image with most Obama supporters and democrats. I cannot find many people who respect Hillary as much now as they did before this election started. She has come across mostly as desperate and mean and hatful and that her winning the nomination is more important than the party winning. She mocked Obama supporters and insulted his “magic”. This is disappointing because Hillary is smart and talented. I think she was just totally shocked that she could possibility lose the nomination. Quitting will be admitting she lost and she cannot admit that. So she will wait for an Obama mistake or try to twist arms or change the rules because of the small hope she can still be the nominee. Even if the people don’t want her.

Yes, it has been an amazing 10 days for Obama. And a horrible 10 days for Hillary. It will be fun to see what the next 10 days brings!
