Has anyone had negative house party experiences?

I'm not the house party type, but even I might get on board. We have a few people we could invite, but it would be even better to make it open to the public, especially since there are no other parties going on in my area.

Problem is that I live in a pretty conservative area, and I have to admit that inviting a bunch of strangers into my house, some of whom might wish me ill, kinda scares me, particularly with my adorable 2 year old around.

I'm sure the strong pro-Bushies in town check this kinda thing out on the Kerry site. I don't want to live in fear, and that's not really gonna stop me, but I figured I'd ask if anyone out there had any bad experiences with a public house party. I have a HUGE wall and an LCD projector, so it might be kinda fun to watch the end of the convention on the big-"screen".

That said, I'm not even a friggin Democrat, and I don't really care about the convention/pep-rally, but I *DO* care about getting George Jr. out of the White House, almost more than anything.

Any thoughts?

david
