The 'regular white folks' I know who Matthews is referring to will never vote for him. But they'd never vote for a democrat anyway. They should replace 'white problem' with 'rural religious people who live in the midwest and south' problem and replace 'Obama' with 'democrat'. Obama is trailing in the white vote by about 10-15 points (much due to the high GOP bias of whites in the south or midwest), which is the same that all democrat presidential candidates for president trail the GOP candidate.

Many of the whites who won't vote Obama because he is black wouldn't vote for a white democrat (Gore or Kerry) either.

Obama's 'white problem' is just as made up as his 'latino problem'. Obama is doing fine with both, and I think is doing better than Kerry with both groups already.

FTR, I find it insulting as a white male to be lumped in with bigots and religious fundies as a 'regular white folk'. My understanding is the whites who aren't in small towns in the south & midwest don't really share the GOP bias.
