Her audience was packed with bobble-heading sycophants.

And she still couldn't pull it off. It pleased the people who were in the hall but two blocks down I doubt if anyone in a bar listening to the speech gave two hoots for it one way or the other.

At best, it was exactly as you say -- crushingly mediocre.
